KILN TECHNICIAN

Brooklyn, NY | $18 (Hourly)

Full Time Permanent Position

 

Position Description:

SIN is seeking a full-time Ceramic Kiln Technician who enjoys and excels at working in a creative environment, is detailed oriented and deadline focused. The Ceramic Kiln Technician will prepare and run daily kilns, manage weekly reporting requirements, problem solve any troubleshooting errors with glazes and QC product. The ideal candidate is someone who finds enjoyment in the technical side of ceramics and partaking in the transformation of the product. This is a perfect position for a creative problem-solver, with technical kiln knowledge, seeking to make an impact at a growing small business. No prior kiln operating experience is required.


Responsibilities:

• Prepare and run daily kilns (High Fire and Bisque)

- Sanding

- Glazing

- Loading

- Unloading

- Quality Control

• Ability to foresee and troubleshoot any technical issues in regards to the kiln, product, glaze, etc.

• Prepare weekly kiln schedule.

• Improve / optimize the kiln load to ensure space efficiency.

• Track, manage and report accurate daily numbers.

• Wire lighting.

• Create, maintain and improve standard kiln procedures for the department.

• Make weekly glaze batches

• Detail oriented, confident in basic arithmetic, strong communication skills.


We are a small business, so this list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded.


Requirements:

• Collaborative working style; thrive in a team working environment.

• Knowledge of Kiln and Glazing process: Hand building or wiring knowledge is a plus.

• Must enjoy physical work along with ability to stand 2-3 hours at a time.

• Must be able to lift large fragile items in and out of kilns, up to 25 lbs. at a time.

• Must be able to handle very delicate greenware.

• Strong hand and finger dexterity.

• Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize.

• Experience with Google Suite is a plus.

• Self-reliant, can quickly grasp new concepts and ask the right questions in the face of ambiguity.

• Excellent problem-solver with a “get it done” attitude.

• Adaptable, willing to take on new challenges and changes that come with a growing small business.


Schedule:

• 8 hour shift + 1 hour unpaid lunch

• Day shift

• Monday to Friday
